Multicultural
Curacao is a island with more than 50 different cultures. The majority of the population of 158,000 has an Afro-Caribbean background. As a byproduct of a history of slave trade, the island has a rich cultural heritage embraced by residents and visitors. Until today, African-Caribbean traditions play an important role on the island. The 158,000 inhabitants of Curacao come from all over the world. After the Dutch colonization a large part of the population came from elsewhere to the island.
Each new population has left its traces. One thing that local people share in common is that they are very proud of their island.
